Industry powerhouse Victoria Monét returns just in time for Valentine's Day with her newest single "F.U.C.K." After the success of her debut record Jaguar in 2020, Victoria Monét has been steadily building a substantial fanbase. While many praised the R&B artist's futuristic and expertly crafted tracks, many others took time to note that Monét's newfound praise was long overdue. Though she has been writing songs with artists like Nas, Chloe x Halle, and Ariana Grande for the better part of the last decade, it seems like Victoria Monét is finally getting the attention she deserves. Over a sultry and seductive mix filled with dreamy instrumentation and backing vocals, Monét sings, “I’m just tryna jump your bones, we don’t gotta jump the broom, you know / Might be across the room but in private we be super close." In the final act of "F.U.C.K.," Monét slows the track down, transposing the bridge before closing the song with lines like "Pinky swear to keep you next to me / Like a charm that fits you perfectly." Though traditionally "F.U.C.K." carries an interesting contradiction, being both concerned with the romantic life of another while embracing the distance between them, the track seeks to redefine our notions of romance and the responsibilities that come with it. In this way, Monét adds a heavy dose of perspective to our notion of love, acknowledging that exclusivity might just be an overplayed ideal, one that is emphasized at the expense of our own sexual and social growth.
