The Marías Announce New Album 'Submarine' With the Dance-Inducing “Run Your Mouth”

It’s been nearly three years since the release of The Marías lauded debut album, Cinema, but thanks to a sprinkle of collaborations with the likes of Cuco and Eyedress, it feels like LA’s sexiest band never left. Even if there has been a The Marías–shaped hole in your heart, their latest single, “Run Your Mouth,” is here to hold you close in the twilight hours.

If Cinema was largely a flirtation adorned in velvet, “Run Your Mouth” does away with the subtleties, basking in an intoxicating, dance-inducing affair taking place at the heart of the dancefloor. Written by bandmates Josh Conway and María Zardoya, and produced by Conway, the single opens on Zardoya’s hypnotic, almost detached vocals that ease into an effortless cool as the production falls into step behind her. It’s the rare sort of indie dance track that perfectly slipstreams into dimly lit living room parties, bars that are too cool for their own good, or a chance encounter under the rising heat of a summer night sky.

“This was one of the first songs Josh and I wrote on Submarine,” shares Zardoya. “I was conflict avoidant at the time, and whenever someone wanted to talk about something serious, I’d run and hide. I learned that was a protective mechanism and I didn’t have the capacity to open up. There’s no other song on the album like it, hope you dance to this one.”

“Run Your Mouth” arrives as the first enchanting glimpse into the world of the band’s highly-anticipated sophomore album, Submarine, set to release this spring. If this track is any indication of what’s to come, we cannot wait to give ourselves over to what The Marías have in store.
