Australia's very own, Teenage Joans, are ecstatic to release their latest single, "Sweet and Slow." A powerful and catchy track about choosing the same person over and over again without question, it offers a blast from the past kind of vibe, leaning heavily into early 2000s emo and pop-punk inspirations while still allowing the pair's personality and talent to shine.

The track opens with a tight and dense drum arrangement that transforms into something larger and boomy as the first chorus starts, signaling the first shift in energy. Creamy guitar riffs flow in and out, shimmering vocal harmonies, giving the song an airy, buoyant quality. This wistfulness balances out the cheekier aspects of the lyrics, which include clever yet heartwarming lines like, "If you're a discount sale/ Then I'm a shopaholic/ A Phoebe Bridgers song/Then I'm your melancholic" and "stain my hand with your number."

The accompanying music video, directed by Scarlett Scherer, is an equally cheeky and silly visual that follows the pair as they play various roles on a late-night show. Chaos ensues on set as they try to fulfill their duties as the performing act, the hosts, the cast, etc., with something going wrong no matter what segment they cut to next. "The video concept stemmed from the 'Slow dancing on your rigged game show/this live audience won't leave me alone' lyric," shared the duo. "We had this idea to do an almost SNL gone wrong type video, where we are guests on a talk show, ruining every segment with our mischief. We really wanted to lean into the 60s/70s/80s TV show aesthetic, especially reflected through the set designs and our costumes, which we usually create and source with our manager, who is also super crafty."

The new track is the first release from the unit since 2024's "1800-PAINLESS". Written with Jayden Seeley and produced by Jared Nettle, "Sweet and Slow was written directly before performing at SXSW in 2023. Aiming to bridge the gap between past Teenage Joans releases and what's expected from the two-piece moving forward.
