Peach Tree Rascals' "C'est La Vie" Is an Effervescent Sonic Departure

If you’ve spent any time online in the last few years, you’re bound to have come across the distinct and uplifting sounds of Peach Tree Rascals. The DIY Bay Area collective exploded onto the scene in early 2020 with their breakout hit "Mariposa." Comprised of Tarrek Abdel-Khaliq, Issac Pech, Joseph Barros, Jorge Olazaba, and Dominic Pizano, the five-piece group is bringing back their melodic, feel-good, instantly recognizable vibe with their newest track, "C’est La Vie."

"C'est La Vie" is a joyous departure, combining wistful lyricism with effervescent production as the collective explores the impact of unrequited love and the uncomfortable realities of a stifling relationship. Opening with a lone voice over a modulating guitar in a simple chorus, the band sings “If I could change the world / I'd fold the space between me and you / I'd fly right into the sun / C'est la vie / Cause the stars look so much brighter with you.”

The track immediately draws on feelings of deep nostalgia and longing, as Peach Tree Rascals delve headfirst into the pain that comes with loving someone in a relationship that isn’t working out; whether it’s long distance, different priorities, or something more serious. "C’est La Vie" follows a journey of gradual acceptance yet still longing for a different outcome. Playing on the French phrase for “such is life”, the track takes the form of an infectious pop song while serving as a subtle push to compel listeners out of denial and into reality.

Unfortunately, Peach Tree Rascals have recently announced an unexpected schedule change which sees them pushing their upcoming fall tour back, but the band is making an extra effort to stay connected with fans by sharing songs like "C’est La Vie" that have been in the works for almost two years.
