Paris Texas Launch Into the Stratosphere With 'MID AIR'

Premiering the album alongside their original short film “Head High,” Paris Texas have officially released their 16-track project MID AIR—their flag on the moon and declaration of untouchable stardom.

Rambunctious and drawn outside the lines, Paris Texas pays no respect to the bland nor unimaginative. Characteristically known to marry rap with rock, neither are at the expense of the other. While tracks like “Split-Screen” and “Closed Caption” are more lyrically heavy, singles like “Everybody’s Safe Until…” and “Earth-2” carry on early NERD’s heavy metal torch. “NüWhip” and “Airborne” reflect their marriage in the middle, proving their plasticity is a skill you can attempt to emulate but never fully master. There’s no other act in hip-hop holding a candle to the duo, and they barely seem to have broken a sweat.

With multiple lines like “Too depressed to be a narcissist” sprinkled throughout the project, even sandwiched between bars that demand their reign be witnessed, Paris Texas doesn’t tiptoe around speaking on their suffering mental health. Hidden behind blaring guitar riffs are incomparable wit, raw flesh, and honesty.

A standout track is “Full English,” featuring Texas-based rap sensation Teezo Touchdown. It’s playful and silly, featuring a vocally harmonious bridge that eases back into Paris Texas' regularly scheduled debauchery. Second to close the album out, “Ain’t No High” casts light on what’s typically eclipsed from Paris Texas: soft, slow, and vulnerable.

The movie premiere, in which attendees included featured album artist Teezo Touchdown and comedian Noel Miller, further solidifies Paris Texas’ ability to navigate multiple forms of media in an original and explosive way. Taking the easy route would be too uninteresting, and Paris Texas is only here to make a statement.
