Novulent Copes with Distortion On "boys lie and girls steal"

Novulent tells the truth nobody wants to say out loud on their newest release, "boys lie and girls steal." This track explores raw, uncomfortable truths about relationships, erupting with grinding guitars, roaring percussion, and dark, emotive vocals slicing through the chaos with unnerving clarity.

Opening on a wave of gorgeous guitar grind, 'boys lie and girls steal' bursts into a powerful, immersive darkwave soundscape. The sonic floodwaters rush in with layered textures, while Novulent's voice cuts through the crashing drums and gritty distortion with an eerie calm, crooning, "Dying light, see the strain in my eyes/ When I try to make sense of my own life...Every year I try/ Boys lie, and girls steal, from you, from you...Am I stuck in a loop?" This intense atmosphere invites listeners into a raw, introspective space that reflects the song's emotional depth.

"With VOL. 3 being about me navigating relationships — using my own and others' as inspiration — 'boys lie, girls steal' is one possible mindset after a breakup," says Novulent. "It's actually not a 'bad ending.' The whole song is about how nobody is perfect — we're all fucked up, and that's how it is. Boys lie, and girls steal."

Novulent's latest single follows the success of their last release, the volatile "sacrifice," a stormy effort that explores breaking free from mental anchors and emotional residue. The budding artist has been delivering an insane run of releases leading up to the highly anticipated album VOL. 3, including the hypnotic darkwave pull of "evil eye," the fuzz-soaked urgency of rip, and the bittersweet shimmer of lead single "new low." Together, these releases point to an era defined by introspection, distortion, and beautifully bruised storytelling.
