Meet 'Space Cowboy' Carla Wehbe Who’s Unafraid to Set Her Heart Ablaze

“I’m a very intentional person and I really enjoy the process of making music with friends, sharing it, and completing it together”.

At first glance your eyes immediately shift to the cowboy hat situated on Carla’s head, but there’s more to the Space Cowboy that meets the eye. With sounds distinctive of unconventional pop with hints of glam and synths, her sound makes listeners long for the good old days.

While music wasn’t in her line of sight to pursue, it eventually made its way to her heart. Fast forward later, this Sydney singer-songwriter is making tracks to appease the heart, mind, and soul. “I grew up playing sport and had zero interest in music. I played the violin when I was three years-old for about ten years, which I hated it for ten years haha! When I was in high school, I started singing and my parents encouraged me to try, and I said no for a very long time because I thought it was very lame and uncool”.

Drawing inspirations from ABBA, David Bowie, Harry Styles and even Avril Lavigne, Carla builds a bridge between old and modern. With a strong sense of 80s undertones and 2000s pop nostalgia her music is guaranteed to grab onto memories of simpler times and hopeful fantasies. Centering her songs around themes of love, heartbreak, and personal growth, it’s hard to miss the abundance of styles under her belt. From feel-good hits to mellow melodies, Carla pulls at listeners heart strings from every angle. “My music would probably be mostly heartbreaking and sad, kind of dramatic, cinematic, and nostalgic. I draw some of my inspiration from a lot of the older eras of music, so it has that element of nostalgia in it”.

Authenticity tends to be a common resurgence for Carla with her work unveiling intimacy and projecting shared moments. Whether it’s super thoughtful or confessional, her music manages to grab onto one key part that everyone can relate to – revealing her thoughts for those to hear. “I draw a lot of inspiration from not only my own experience but also from others. I’m a massive empath so I feel other feelings very strongly. I’m also able to tap into things that I haven’t necessarily felt myself to draw inspiration for my music”.

With her anticipated debut EP Half Past Nine set to release, her single "introvert (with extroverted expectations)" bares all. Raw and unfiltered, this song is a slow-building anthem taking us on a melodic journey through desired inclusion without the need for effort and being out of your comfort zone. With more up her sleeves, Carla Wehbe’s most recent track "knight to E5" is a forthcoming body-of-work touching on her deep regrets, as she reflects on putting someone else’s needs before her own.

A deeply sincere and emotionally tuned artist, Carla Wehbe is comforting us through sound and passion.
