With an unparalleled pen and a vessel for love’s relentless bite, Mariah the Scientist solidifies herself as R&B’s princess with her third studio album, To Be Eaten Alive.

Not shying away from her relationship with her faith, Mariah the Scientist doubles down on her spiritual devotion, opening with “Heaven is a Place on Earth.” The track ideates what the afterlife could look like, further committing her time on earth to her craft and true love. Luxury’s temptation could never divert her prowess, which speaks to the self-built empire she stands atop.

Dropping the album on her 26th birthday, To Be Eaten Alive marks an important checkpoint in her musical journey. Signing a new joint venture record deal with Epic Records, she’s ushering in an up-leveling of stardom that can only be attributed to her ability. Her fandom is devout, and it’s because they recognize that she stands with the likes of Victoria Monét and Coco Jones, women continuing to maintain rightful ownership of the R&B genre.

We’re introduced to all the shades of Mariah the Scientist on this project. “Out of Luck” has a groovy, Kaytranada-inspired beat, while “Different Pages” dives into deeper, more torrential waters. She even coordinated drops with boyfriend Young Thug, with the album’s lead single “From A Woman” released alongside the fellow Atlanta-based rapper’s single “From A Man.”

With features from more musical guests like 21 Savage and Vory, To Be Eaten Alive stands as Mariah the Scientists’ most thorough project yet. Once in pursuit of becoming an anesthesiologist, it’s not lost on us how divinely orchestrated her professional pivot was. As she continues to dominate, we can’t wait to dive deeper into her burgeoning era as the project’s paired visuals release.
