KayCyy's Creative Risks Pay Off in 'Get Used To It'

While fans wait patiently for KayCyy to release his debut album Who Is KayCyy?, the songwriting mastermind seems to be hard at work doing virtually anything else.
Between dropping bangers with Gesaffelstein, premiering new singles with Lancey Foux, and collaborating with everyone from Fivio Foreign to Johan Lenoxm KayCyy is steadily building a creative resumé outside of his work as Kanye West’s latest protegée. This week, his list of accomplishments grows with the release of Get Used To It, a collection of genre-melding singles perfectly-polished for your upcoming summertime rotation. Featuring collaborations with 070 Shake and Annahstasia, it’s only a matter of time until KayCyy enters hip-hop’s upper echelon.
Get Used To It is a cinematic and carefully-crafted project from one of hip-hop’s most hyped newcomers, but surprisingly, it is also KayCyy’s riskiest release yet. From the hypnotic and high-energy opener “Look What I Found” to the intoxicatingly downtempo “Hold You Up,” KayCyy does not try to pander or trend-hop to fans hoping for another Donda or “The Sun”. Instead, KayCyy provides refreshing ingenuity that manifests as warping off-kilter bangers—“Replay” and “Borrow”—or heart-on-sleeve performances that deserve to be displayed in the —“Needed For Something” and “Howwww.” Whether he’s impassionately rapping on the electric “Shoutouts” or singing pensively with 070 Shake on “Rain,” every track is instilled with a futuristic energy that firmly supplants KayCyy in a lane of his own.
Though attending the ‘Kanye West School of Dropping an Album’ comes with its fair share of benefits, it also means that fans will have to wait a little longer for the upcoming debut from our hero. If Get Used To It is any indication of things to come, however, then KayCyy is an artist that deserves your attention as spring blossoms to summer.
