KayCyy and Gesaffelstein Collide on Cinematic Visual For "OKAY!"
Though you may not know KayCyy's name, you've definitely heard his music. The latest protégée of Kanye West, the young rapper, writer, and producer has spent the better part of the last two years simultaneously working on both Donda and his own solo music simultaneously. Fans have been patiently awaiting KayCyy's highly-anticipated debut album Who Is KayCyy? only to be met with delays and missed deadlines, but things seem to be changing. With a recent string of forward-thinking tracks, it seems that the floodgates have opened and a rollout has begun.
KayCyy's latest offering comes in the form of "OKAY!," a futuristic Gesaffelstein-produced banger that seems equally refined and unafraid to take risks. Featuring almost no percussion at all, the mix on "OKAY!" primarily consists of a sparse synth melody, a healthy dose of minimalism, and is instilled with the infectious energy that only KayCyy can deliver. Though the instrumental has more in common with the noises my microwave makes than the average KayCyy track, it's still an avant-garde hit that truly does sound like the culture itself is being pushed forward.
The cinematic ominousness of "OKAY!" is both amplified and validated by the track's Jeremi Durand-directed visual, whose monochromatic mystery harkens back to a Yeezus-era Kanye with a dash of futurism this time around.
While it still may be a minute before KayCyy's debut record releases, his latest string of releases have been keeping fans satiated as they anticipate one of the year's hottest records. From last year's "Flew By You" to the most recent Lancey Foux-assisted "Stay Up," KayCyy is on a hot streak that few artists right now can match. If "OKAY!" is a sign of things to come, fans of hip-hop that are craving something new might be in for a treat this year.
