Meet julie, the Los Angeles Band Channeling Unbridled '90s Angst in "catalogue"

Los Angeles trio julie is back with their latest addictively brooding single, "catalogue." Combing elements of grunge, pop, and shoegaze, the new track is a hooky, pleasantly tangled piece of music that cracks open the complexities of human emotion and the numbness one can feel amid chronic disillusionment.
"catalogue" opens with fuzzed-out guitar riffs, thrumming bass lines, and driving percussion patterns. Singer and guitarist Alex Brady croons over the moody instrumentation, "I just want to stay here / Catalogue, picture of a bone / With the pine needles in my hair," further lamenting that they only want to reflect on the fears they thought they'd grow out of and the dreams they once had. In the chorus, over an intensifying, angsty guitar-led ensemble, they acknowledge the indifference they feel as sonic cacophony looms overhead.
The second half of the track attempts to bottle this brewing storm, giving the single an underlying rumbling effect as Brady ponders her feelings. "Long ago I was imagining/ But I don't want to," she sings before an eruption of sound fills the air, wrapping the listener up in delicious chaos before screeching and fading into the ether.
The new track follows the release of last year's double single, "pg.4 a picture of three hedges" and "through your window." After that, they went quiet. Although they have yet to release a full-length, that didn't stop them from completely selling out every date on their upcoming North American tour, which includes a stop at Tyler, The Creator's forthcoming Camp Flog Gnaw festival.
