Yes, you can accuse of us of fanning the heck out of Hojean, but this veteran of our editorial love in the form of live showcases, zine spreads, and playlist bingo is hard not to appreciate. An artist defined by taking chances while still having a knowing flow, a voice that unlocks hearts, and lyrics that diagnose the biggest feels, he’s the musician you want to be and your mom starts to stan. We wanted to dig into his latest EP, Cherie, right from the man himself, and with his typical humble brevity, he let us into the crux of this succinct yet poignant body of work.
"Cherie"
To explain the idea behind the name, this song is a one-sided conversation to the one that got away.
"Easily"
Felt like creating a song with a “who cares/head bob”/ignorance type of beat, but behind that are lyrics that portray a question about one-sided reciprocation. Think high-energy banger with a contrast of dark lyricism.
"Lock Me In"
An explosive song that creates the feeling of wanting to call that certain someone up late at night.
"Cruel"
This song represents the idea of a relationship ending but having not gotten the closure to properly move on, feeling stuck in a purgatory.
"9 to 5"
A feel-good song that talks about a 9 to 5 but instead it flips the idea of work times to spending hours with the one you love.
