Flyana Boss' 'This Ain't The Album' Is For the Girls and Baddies

With every drop serving undeniable heat, it’s hard to believe Flyana Boss has a single L in them. Their newest EP This Ain't The Album is a five-song rave for the girls, as boisterous and perfectly hip-hop as you’d expect it to be.

Tag-teaming seamlessly bar for bar, Flyana Boss are two individual expressions that together have built a unified organism. Though they each bring something different to the booth, the result is one loud exclamation of Black girl joy.

The project opens with “yeaaa,” a fast-paced pop track reminiscent of 2000s MySpace gems. A bow to Prima J’s “Rockstar,” it’s what every baddie would have made her profile song. Meanwhile, “Money At” is a braggadocious declaration of self-worth, plus tax. Top 2 and not 2, you could never convince Flyana Boss they aren’t the most dangerous in the female rap game, though they’re only competing with themselves.

Closing with “Stupendous,” Flyana Boss makes it a point to embody the reminder that you should always be the loudest on your team. Rooting for themselves the way they would a best friend, your words are your most powerful tool, and it’s worth it to decorate your life with good ones.

Not to be confused with an album, it’s hard to believe that we’re still waiting on their debut, as they’ve been superstars for so long. Strategic with their releases, we’re inching closer and closer to their first full-length project as they sharpen their skill and only better themselves as lyricists. Until then, This Ain't The Album is more than enough of a meal to hold us off.
