Chinese-American singer-songwriter and vibrant performer Emei returns with a bang in the hyperpop-inspired "Irresponsible." The tune, the second single of her forthcoming sophomore EP set to release later this year, reflects the frustration of constantly messing up in young adulthood, giving us a peek into Emei's cluttered mind.

With "Irresponsible," Emei writes a song all about feeling the chaos in her mind and the consequences that arise from it. The song further acknowledges her own recklessness and carelessness at times. Lyrics including, "Slap me on the wrist / Tsk tsk I'm trying / I don't know why / I never grew up / and it's mortifying / Why am I so irresponsible," show that Emei is aware of her flaws and is trying to grow. Deep penetrating kinetic electronic beats build into an erratic and untamed drum 'n' bass beat, underlying Emei's confident vocals for a rich musical journey.

Flirting with hyperpop notes throughout, "Irresponsible" is colored with a witty lyrical pull, a satirical undergirding, and bold electronic glitches. The one moment in the track without chaos ensuing in the backdrop is when Emei's ringing vocal tones double down on defiance, "Don't tell me to go slow / Cause you know that I won't."

Emei has quickly become one of the most promising alt-pop artists to watch in 2023. Even before she started writing, Emei developed an incredible stage presence from her experience competing on Chinese Idol at 15. After coming in third place on the show and months of stadium shows, Emei began releasing her music on Chinese platforms, eventually performing on Dancing with the Stars of China. When Covid hit, the LA-based songwriter started releasing new music on American platforms, quickly racking up millions of plays, a fervent global fanbase, and critical acclaim.
