Indie-pop songstress Holly Humberstone has joined forces with Del Water Gap for their cinematic duet, “Cigarettes & Wine.” In this moody love song, two touring artists share their unique perspective of dating on the road and cherishing magical, fleeting memories. The track follows an impressive year for both artists, seeing the release of Del Water Gap’s second album and Hhumberstone's debut album. The night before its release, Humberstone joined Del Water Gap on stage at his sold-out Electric Ballroom show in London, surprising the crowd with a debut performance of the track.

“Cigarettes & Wine” is about capturing the moments you’re able to spend together to lessen the pain of constantly being apart. It’s a song that sounds like a road trip in the most stereotypically blissful way. Its lyrics paint a visual picture of their travels, sprinkling beautiful details of how to collect both tangible and abstract memories to bridge the distance. Humberstone’s delicate vocals paired with Del Water Gap’s gravelly tone tell two sides of the same story, invoking modern melodies and a classic feel simultaneously.

Echoing social media trends of embracing delusion, the two freely harmonize over the bridge singing, “Face it, we’re foolish / But I wouldn’t change how we do it.” Potent with the reality of an unsustainable long-distance relationship, “Cigarettes & Wine” rejects the heaviness and lives in bliss. It’s a perfect combination of both Del Water Gap and Humberstone’s signature songwriting, coming together to create the perfect track for rolling the windows down and driving away from your problems.

Over a glittery guitar and irresistible beat, the pair emphasizes the simple phrase, “Let’s keep living / How we’re livin’.” The track has the spirit of an essential indie hit and is elevated by its raw honesty of living in the in-between. In “Cigarettes & Wine,” nothing matters more than spending time with those they love, no matter how short the opportunity is.
