Dasha Writes an Ode to Her Younger Self in “Oh, Anna!”

Dasha’s latest single, “Oh, Anna!” isn’t much like what we’ve heard from the singer-songwriter before. It’s still classic country, but instead of being the perfect backtrack for a line dance, the single uses a simpler arrangement of softly strummed, twangy acoustic guitar. This softer side of Dasha is extremely vulnerable, really resonating with any listener who often finds themself sick with bittersweet nostalgia for when times felt simpler.

“Oh, Anna!” is Dasha’s ode to her younger self, using her first name, Anna. Missing the fearless free-spirit that often comes with youth, Dasha admits in the chorus, “I feel more like a scared little kid than I ever did back then. I need you to come back a little, come back a little, make me that girl again, oh Anna!” The most heartwrenching part of the song is the last verse, when Dasha, despite the pressures of achieving stardom, realizes that she’s living the life that Anna always wanted.

Despite how emotionally driven “Oh, Anna!” is, the track gradually builds into something much bigger and in many ways explodes as a screamable anthem. Its relatability serves it well, and it’s guaranteed that many will find comfort and catharsis through screaming Dasha’s words.

It's evident that Dasha is so much more than just her hit single, “Austin.” Following the recent release of “Not At This Party,” which was even remixed by David Guetta, Dasha has begun to showcase to everyone just what she can achieve. Using her newfound confidence from success to find her sound, she is consistently proving herself as a country singer-songwriter who’s undoubtedly one to watch.
