Brandon Pens a Love Letter to the Messiness of Relationships in "Steady"

A tender lullaby, R&B prodigy Brandon brings the heart back home in his latest single “Steady.”

A wounded relationship can’t be mended alone, and Brandon pleads for his lover to meet him on common ground. “Steady” is a love letter to the messiness of relationships, romanticizing the bits that usually make us run away.

The track follows up his 2020 debut Coming Clean, a soul-baring project that earned him attention from the likes of MTVTeen Vogue, and more. From “Cherie” to “Savior Complex,” he’s released a few more glimpses into his heart, hopefully trailing breadcrumbs to his next fully formed project.

Reminiscent of the best dreamlike R&B-evoking stalwarts, Brandon’s vocals are gentle yet debilitatingly captivating. He doesn’t need superfluous musical theatrics to make a good song—anything beyond simple acoustics would overstep how haunting and profound his layered vocals are. In fact, most aspects of Brandon’s artistry are simple. From his clean visuals to his left-handed strumming, he just shows up. His flesh is his instrument and he wears his vulnerability on his skin, which is why he’s been able to enchant so many.

Living love out loud, Brandon’s soft compassion can melt even the most cynical. “Steady” is a song for those scorned by yet devoted to loving again, redefining the beauty in resilience.
