Dream Academy alum ADÉLA peels back more layers of her artistry in her latest single "DeathByDevotion." This new track not only marks a significant turning point in the rising star's artistic journey as a singer and dancer but also reflects a personal evolution, signaling her highly anticipated debut EP, The Provocateur. With a unique blend of shimmering electropop and her signature raw confessional style, she positions herself at the forefront of a new wave of hyper-personal pop storytellers, inviting her audience to join her on this transformative path.

Amid the addictive and destructive production, she delves into the universal experience of the dark side of unquestioning loyalty, chronicling a toxic cycle of giving too much to someone who gives nothing back. She muses, "Don't stop, I keep it goin', stuck in perpetual motion / Turnstile, my ego shows, sentenced to death by devotion." The title itself captures the song's essence of loving to the point of self-destruction.

On the hook, she continues to offer up a poetic post-mortem of an obsessive fantasy. She repeats the hypnotic mantra, "Heavy on it / Steady on it / Get me on it / God, I want it," as booming bass, sleek synths, and desperate vocalizations pull her further down like an anchor into the depths of her delusion.

In the accompanying music video, directed by Sinclair, she matches the intensity of the song with her dancing in pointe shoes to an almost manic pace. She displays her dedication to a breaking point that can only be remedied with a vicious discipline and a cigarette.

The new track follows the success of her last release, the biting and fierce "Machine Girl." Produced by Grimes, Liam Benayon, Slush Puppy, and Dylan Harrison, it serves as commentary on the spectacle of female conflict. The track features innovative production techniques that create a sense of urgency, futuristic vocoder harmonies, and juvenile taunts that convey a sense of defiance. The 21-year-old responds to drama and asks people to examine their misplaced rage.

The Provocateur, ADÉLA's debut EP, is set to release August 15 via EMI.
